More Hilarious Quotables

Posted by Christy on February 24, 2009

Our child is a never-ending fountain of hilarity.  Here are a few more of her funny word-phrase combinations:

1.  “Twinkle bathmat!” (Don’t ask.  I have no idea what it means.)

2.  “Milk.  Milk Please.  Water.  Water please.  EAT!  FOOD!  Snack time!”  (Trying whatever works, I guess…usually said while banging on the refrigerator)

3.  “Fighting!”  (Crashing little ponies’ heads together repeatedly.)
4.  “Shope!” (soap) “Wash hands!  Teeth!” (reciting all the things you can do at the sink)

5.  “Bunny HOP HOP HOP!”  (every animal is incomplete without an action or a noise attached.)

6.  “Fire!  YUM YUM YUM YUM!”  (seeing the fireplace in action…pyromaniac in the making?)

7.  “La la la la SINGING!”  (In case you didn’t know what she was doing!)

8.  “Hi piggies!  Oink oink!  Night night piggies! Wake up piggies!” (spoken to her new curtains with the pig design)

9.  “Monkey pajamas!” (a typical morning greeting)

10.  “Shower shoes, shower shoes!” (flower shoes…or maybe she’s ready to live in a dorm?)

11.  “MOVIE!!” (referring to any CD or DVD she can find, very excited)

12.  “Fast fast fast…oopies!” (running backwards, looking at her shadow, and then wiping out…and getting up and doing it all over again!)

13.  “Daddy do it!” (when told, “I wil do it for you.”)

14.  “QUACK QUACK!!”  (yelling at the unsuspecting ducks at our local park)

Money Down the Drain?

Posted by Tom on February 17, 2009

Among the thoughts that crossed my mind when reading this article:

  • Ever get the sense that paying taxes is like flushing money down the toilet?

  • I guess this is what you call “Pay as you go!”

  • “Tax hike” has become an official new term for wedgie…

OK, I’ll stop.

Also, interesting note about Bellaire, TX.  That’s a city that has been completely surrounded by Houston!

Who Moved My Playground?

Posted by Christy on February 11, 2009

I will probably annoy a lot of my Northern friends by saying this, but Texas has gorgeous weather in February, and we decided to take advantage of it today.  Jocelyn and I (Mommy) spend lots of time soaking up the sun in the back yard, but today just seemed like a park day, so off we went…after a little confusion about which vehicle to take. dsc_5657

The park is a good 3/4 mile from our house, and I used her independence to my full advantage (letting her walk almost half the distance).  She kept me entertained along the way by announcing holes in the ground (“OH NO! HOLE!”), picking up various things off the ground– “Leaf!  Sick (stick)!  Yucky (garbage)!”

By the time we got to the park, she was really excited.  As we came up over the last hill,I said, “Let’s go play on the playground!”  However, this is what we saw where the playground used to be (2 days ago):

Yes.  It was nothing but a big pile of DIRT.  Fortunately, Jocelyn didn’t seem the least bit concerned.  Here she is making creative use of the adult fitness area:

I think I did the same kind of acrobatics at her age.  I remember my mom telling me that she would not take a picture of me hanging upside down from the swingset by my knees, because Grandma and Grandpa would have a heart attack.

More Thoughts from Our Junior Wordsmith

Posted by Christy on February 6, 2009

Jocelyn will be two years old in about one month.  It seems like her little mind is just exploding with new words and phrases.  Here are some more recent things she has been saying.

We have been learning how to say prayers.  In the bathtub one night, she bowed her head and clasped her hands.  “Mommy, Daddy, moon.  Amen.”

She has been on a major affection kick lately…with the weirdest outcomes!  For instance, we will be driving down a wooded road, and she will burst out, “Wuv woo twees!” (Love you trees!) , complete with a self-hug and back-and-forth rocking motions.  : )  She also recently told the house she loved it while “hugging” it (plastering her arms and her face against the back door).  I have also heard “Wuv woo, yocks” (socks), “Wuv woo, bear” (or whatever toy she is holding at the time), and “Wuv woo, cheese!”

As we turn up the street to our new house, she will start chanting, “Mommy house.  Daddy house.  Baby house.  Shoe house.”

After a particularly fun day at the local playground, she spent the next 30 minutes saying, in the saddest little voice, “Bye bye pawk.  Bye bye pawk.”

If she gets into our room in the morning, her favorite pastime is climbing on the bathroom scale.  She will triumphantly say, “Numbers!”  She tries to read numbers, too, but the usually come out, “One.  Two.  Five!”

In the same vein, if we are taking a walk and we passa sign in someone’s yard (say, an advertisement for a roofer), she will leave the sidewalk, march right up to that sign, announce, “Lettews!”, and then proceed to read them off perfectly.  (Somehow I was blessed with a child who could recite all her letters by 20 months.)

After a recent visit from some little friends, she now likes to jump on her bed, much to Mommy’s chagrin.  Her chant?  “Boingy, boingy, boingy, boingy…”
